Cambodia Gambling Halls

There is an interesting history to the Cambodia gambling halls that reside just over the border from nearby Thailand, where casino gaming is not legal. Eight casinos are anchored in a relatively small space in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia casinos is in an excellent location, a three to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 biggest gambling locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai blue-collar workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The phenomenal capital accrued from the casinos ranges from seven and a half million dollars to more than 12.5 million dollars, and there are a number of restrictions constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mostly Thai; still, investment sources are ambiguous. The borders are formally open from 09:00 to 1700, and though visas are for all intents and purposes needed to cross, there are means around this, as is correct of most border crossings.

The original Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving only one gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked boat casino, contains 150 slot machine games and sixty gaming tables. The Naga casino is open all day and night with forty two tables of mini-baccarat banque, four tables of twenty-one, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The first casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly opened. There are one hundred and fifty slot machines and five tables at the Golden Crown and 104 slots and 68 gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights three hundred slots and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machines and 96 gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machines and 66 of the familiar tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, also in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machines and ninety seven table games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-inclusive vacation and hotel compound that features many amenities aside from the gambling hall, which houses ten thousand sq.ft. of 130 slot machines and eighty eight gaming tables.
