Cambodia Casinos

There is a fascinating background to the Cambodia casinos that reside just across the border from neighboring Thailand, in which gambling den gaming is against the law. Eight gambling dens are situated in a relatively tiny space in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia gambling dens is in a prime location, a three to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two biggest gaming locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a huge business with Thai blue-collar workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The astonishing income acquired from the gambling dens ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a number of limitations constraints for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mostly Thai; although, financing sources are vague. The borders are officially open from 0900 to 5:00 p.m., and although visas are apparently required to pass, there are means around this, as is true of most border crossings.

The original Cambodia gambling halls premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in 1998, leaving only one gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary boat gambling hall, contains 150 slot machine games and sixty gaming tables. The Naga river boat never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, four tables of twenty-one, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon followed. There are one hundred and fifty slot machines and five tables at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machines and 68 tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 one armed bandits and seventy table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slots and 96 gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machines and sixty six of the normal tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight casinos in Poipet, also a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a multinational vacation and hotel complex that contains numerous luxuries accompanying the casino, which contains 10,000 sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slot machine games and 88 table games.
